What is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder, or Adhesive Capsulitis, occurs when the connective tissue in your shoulder joint becomes thick, stiff, and inflamed. This makes even simple movements—like reaching for a seatbelt or dressing—incredibly painful.
Common Risk Factors
While some cases are idiopathic (unknown cause), you are at a higher risk if you have:
Recent injury or surgery.
Conditions like Diabetes.
Long periods of inactivity or immobilization.
The 3 Stages of Healing
Recovery usually takes between 6 to 24 months, moving through three distinct phases:
Freezing (2–9 Months): Pain increases and range of motion starts to limit.
Frozen (4–12 Months): Pain may decrease, but the shoulder becomes very stiff.
Thawing (5–24 Months): The range of motion begins to improve.
